This is an interesting question, especially since I tout the importance of reviews so much for businesses.
The answer is – it depends.
It’s simple, and straight forward. If a company cares enough to ask for a review, I will often consider leaving a review. If they make it easy for me, then I’m more likely to.
If a company doesn’t care about reviews, then I’m not going to put in the effort to look them up, find them online, and leave a review. That is, unless, I had a bad experience. If I had a bad experience, and if they didn’t try to correct it at the time, then I will spend the time to find them and leave a bad review.
That makes me like most people. Most people don’t mind leaving a review, but they don’t want to have to work to do it. And if you wait more than a few days, to ask, they are less likely to.
If you only ask your customers to leave you a review and do not provide them with an quick and easy way to do it, then most will not take the time. First they have to figure out where to leave your review, find out how to leave it, and then leave a review. That’s too much work.
It also means, if you aren’t actively asking for reviews, and making it easy for customers to leave a review, then you are less likely to have good reviews, and more likely to get bad reviews when you get a review.
